Our Team

  Daniel Schaal, PT

Dan Schaal, Physical Therapist, KauaiDaniel Schaal graduated from the University of New Mexico in Physical Therapy in 1998.  Dan began his career working in a private clinic in Northern New Mexico which focused on outpatient rehabilitation and sports medicine.  While there, he became certified in the Work Steps method of workman’s compensation injury prevention and management, developed the A.C.L. and total joint replacement pre-operative programs, and helped start the pre-ski testing and strengthening program. 

Dan moved to Ele’ele, Kauai, HI in 2001 to open and manage a new clinic for HealthSouth, the largest provider of rehabilitation services in the US.  While managing the Ele’ele clinic he continued to work toward his manual therapy skills, amassing over 200 hours of continuing education in ten years. In 2005, Dan opened Ohana Sports Medicine in Port Allen on the island of Kauai. As the CEO and Director of Physical Therapy, Dan has taken Ohana Sports Medicine from a small operation to a leader in full service Physical Therapy and rehabilitation services on Kauai. Dan is now a clinical instructor for the University of Colorado, Denver’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program and Southwest Baptist University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Prior to becoming a Physical Therapist, Dan earned a BS in Physical Education from the University of New Mexico, coached Jr. Olympic Gymnastics for 12 years and worked as Physical Therapy Technician at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque.  Dan was raised in Ft. Collins Colorado where he lived until 1985. Today Dan, and his wife Suzie live in Kalaheo with their son Ben.

Suzie Woolway, CCC-SLP

Suzie Woolway, a certified and licensed Speech Language Pathologist, she graduated from Humboldt State University in Northern California in June 1991, and then spent the next five years working with deaf and hard-of-hearing infants and young children at Presbyterian Ear Institute, a premier cochlear implant center of the Southwest.  Suzie and Dan lived in rural Northern New Mexico, from 1996 until their move to Kauai in 2001, during which time she provided speech language support services to the Taos County ARC.  In addition, Suzie was part of a transdisciplinary team with the University of New Mexico, traveling throughout the State evaluating “hard-to-test” kids.  While she has spent most of her career working within the areas of Early Intervention, the past six years  her focus has been on people with acquired brain injuries and a neurogenic  disorders, including Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis helping to develop and facilitate local support groups.   Currently, she acts as supervisor to the billing office, Human Resource Manager and speech language pathologist.  She co-founded the non profit Kauai Ocean Recreation Experience and is still actively involved in its ongoing projects.  Current projects for Summer 2011 include:  development of an assistive tech resource summer program for young people with communication disorders (July 23rd and 30th) and KORE Beach Days. 

Michelle Pacilio, M.P.T.

Michelle Pacilio is originally from California and received her bachelor’s degree at UCLA and  Masters degree in Physical Therapy at Chapman University in Orange, California. Married to Gregg Pacilio, another physical therapist, Michelle has spent the last 10 years aggressively pursuing formal and informal continuing education courses to provide  specialized in orthopedic and sports Physical Therapy.  She has trained extensively with individuals with comprehensive backgrounds/education in regards to pelvic floor dysfunction, for both women and men.  

Michelle  lives in Kalaheo with her Physical Therapist husband, Gregg, son Jai and daughter Jade.

Dana Palmer, DPT

                                                  Dana, originally from Northwestern Ontario, Canada, completed her Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg.  She went on to complete her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona. Prior to her arrival on Kauai she worked as an outpatient physical therapist in Canada and spent 5 years in the Northern Mariana Islands as both an inpatient and outpatient physical therapist. In addition, she organized and taught CEU courses and developed a multidisciplinary diabetic foot and wound care clinic that successful reduced lower extremity amputations by 71%. Dana is a pilates instructor, with both mat and reformer certifications.  Currently, she serves as adjunct faculty at A.T. Still University, teaching their transitional Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. 

Shan Seto, Front Office Manager

Officially Shan is the Front Office Manager, Shan Seto, Office Manager Ohana Sports Medicineunofficially she is the heart and soul of the operation. Often the first person with whom a patient has contact, Shan’s easy local style puts people at ease. Shan's been with Ohana Sports Medicine since 2005, and is really more a member of the family than an employee. Thanks Shan for all you do!
